Saving my enemy : how two WWII soldiers fought against each other and later forged a friendship that saved their lives / Bob Welch.
Don Malarkey grew up in Oregon and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Europe. He was scarred by his long tour of duty in WWII and his experiences as a paratrooper behind enemy lines. Fritz Engelbert grew up in Germany and became indoctrinated by the Hitler Youth. After the war, he was wracked with guilt over his participation in the Nazi regime. On the sixtieth anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, the two men met and ended up saving each other's lives and providing healing.
